Cyclone Agnes 1956

On the 6 March Cyclone Agnes, the first Australian tropical Cyclone tracked on radar raged from Cairns to Townsville, Mackay and then into the interior.

Widespread damage was caused with many homes suffering roof damage, with at least 20 homes left uninhabitable. As a result of Cyclone Agnes, four deaths occurred from inland flooding. The 1956 damage cost was estimated at $2.5m in Cairns and $1m in Townsville.
